Welcome to the English Page!

This page has been created with the intent of providing you, the viewer with sites that might help you in your academic career, in this case I am specifically targeting the literature and composition area, English.

Usefulness smilies will be awarded, with the most useful being five.

Citation Machinecitationmachine.net is not unlike easybib.com where that it is a work cited or bibliography page. It shows you how to cite things in works and outside of works. It is a free service.Overall usefulness: :) :) :)Downfalls: Students can use this as a crutch and never learn to cite works correctly.

Good ReadsGoodreads.com can be considered one of my favorite sites. Let's for a second make the analogy of it being the facebook for well, books. On mine I have listed over 200 books that I have read recently. In my news feed I am alerted to other readers who have either recently started, are reading, or have read the same books. This site will give you updates on authors, it can quiz you on your book knowledge, and it is a truly wonderful and free website. This website can also alert you to books that are similar to ones that you like, and books that people who have similar tastes to you have read.Overall usefulness: :) :) :) :) :) :) (Yes, I realize that this is six. It is that awesome)Downfalls: It can be addicting. Not unlike facebook.

Easy BibEasybib.com is a website that can help you make, or make your bibliography, or works cited page for you. It allows you to use a variety of styles. This site however does require monetary compensation after a certain point and for a few more abstract citing forms.Overall usefulness: :) :) :)Downfalls: This website can be abused and students unfortunately could become unable to create bibliographies on their own.

SparknotesSparknotes.com is a website where you can look up basic plot and structural information on a variety of texts used in classes. Summaries and basic plot deducing can help when a student is having a hard time understanding the material.Overall usefulness: :) :) :) :)Downfalls: Many students abuse this website and use it as a way to avoid doing the readings. Please note that sparknotes is not a substitute for reading the text, it is merely a helpful studying tool.

Fiction pressFictionpress.com is a website where you can publish your own original works. On this website you are semi-protected by a copyright that appears at the bottom of each story, poem, or paper you write. This is a website where your original works allow for commenting and constructive criticism by not only your friends, peers, and teachers- but by the world. Thousands upon thousands of people access this site daily.Overall usefulness: :) :) :) :) :)Downfalls: Some people can be cruel. There is no spell check on this website.

Fanfiction*Fanfiction.net is a website that allows up and coming writers to perfect their writing styles. I find this website very useful. I think a good example of how this website can help new writers, or those who want to become better writers is bow it is sometimes daunting- if nearly impossible to come up with your own material. This website allows you to work off of fiction that has already been written. Thus, the general plot and character development is there. You can change the plot, or the character, or just use these basic parameters to improve your grammar and spelling along with your overall writing flow.Overall usefulness: :) :) :) :) :)Downfalls: Again, some people can be cruel. There is no spellcheck.

Google Books*Google Books is a website that you can find and view books for such things as page citations. You can view the whole book for a small fee, or view a small portion of the book for free.Overall usefulness: :) :)Downfalls: it is a semi fee orientated website.

Literacy Zone*Literacy Zone is a website mainly for younger students of education. This website helps in such areas as spelling and grammar. This website can also help extend your vocabulary.Overall usefulness: :) :) :)Downfalls: There is no peer communication and no feedback. Thus while you maybe perfecting your grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary, you are losing that personal aspect.
